Returning to the Land Culture Camp
This is a temporary position expected to last less than 30 days. 

Position Summary
The Camp Childcare Worker supports young families participating in the Returning to the Land Culture Camp by providing attentive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for children ages 1–5. This role is essential in helping caregivers fully engage in camp activities while ensuring that young children remain safe, supported, and meaningfully included in the camp experience.

Childcare Workers will be assigned to either Lower Baldy Base Camp or the Mīyō Pimātisiwinkamik Youth Center, providing both group-based and individualized support for children in a culturally grounded, family-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide attentive, safe, and compassionate care for children ages 1–5
  • Support children’s participation in family learning activities in age-appropriate ways
  • Engage children through play, storytelling, cultural activities, and hands-on learning experiences
  • Offer additional one-on-one support to children who may need extra attention, comfort, or guidance
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all children
  • At Lower Baldy Base Camp, ensure heightened attention to safety due to outdoor and wilderness conditions
  • Assist with supervision, transitions, and daily routines (meals, rest time, activities)
  • Help set up and organize childcare and activity spaces
  • Work collaboratively with Camp Facilitators and other staff to support families holistically
  • Communicate respectfully with caregivers about children’s needs and well-being
  • Uphold camp policies and contribute to a positive, culturally respectful environment
Required Qualifications
  • Experience working with young children (ages 1–5) in a childcare, early education, or similar setting
  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate engagement strategies
  • Demonstrated patience, compassion, and ability to respond to children’s emotional and physical needs
  • Ability to maintain a safe and structured environment in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable, attentive, and responsive to changing needs throughout the day
  • Child/Infant CPR & First Aid certified
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Childcare Workers will be assigned to either: 
    • Lower Baldy Base Camp (outdoor/wilderness setting), or
    • Mīyō Pimātisiwinkamik Youth Center (community-based indoor/outdoor setting)
  • Base Camp staff must be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods and maintaining heightened safety awareness in a wilderness environment
  • Work may involve active movement, lifting, and extended periods of supervision
  • Camp dates are July 7-10, July 14-16, July 21-23. 
    • Mandatory paid training July 6th. 
    • The camp shift will be 2:30pm – 7:30pm. 
    • Two (2) positions will run from July 6-July 23 (total 53 hours)
    • Two (2) positions will run from July 6-July 16 (total 38 hours)
  • Flexibility, attentiveness, and a calm presence are essential

Substance-Free Requirement
The Returning to the Land Culture Camp is a strictly substance-free environment.

All staff must refrain from using or possessing the following while at camp or representing the program:
  • Alcohol
  • Marijuana (in any form)
  • Vapes/e-cigarettes
  • Tobacco products (including chew)
  • Any other non-prescribed substances
