Position Summary
The NHTSA Safe on All Roads (SOAR) Coordinator position will support the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of traffic safety and injury prevention activities within the Rocky Boy community. The position will work collaboratively with the Rocky Boy Health Center Prevention Department, Tribal leadership, community members, schools, youth programs, law enforcement, transportation partners, and other agencies to promote safer roads and reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of NHTSA Safe on All Roads (SOAR) Grant activities within the Rocky Boy community.

  • Develop and deliver culturally relevant traffic safety education, outreach, and prevention activities for community members, schools, youth programs, and other audiences.

  • Promote increased seat belt use, proper child passenger safety practices, and prevention of impaired and unsafe driving.

  • Plan and coordinate community events, educational campaigns, presentations, trainings, and other traffic safety initiatives.

  • Serve as an advocate, spokesperson, and community resource for traffic safety and injury prevention efforts.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with Tribal leadership, law enforcement, schools, transportation partners, community programs, and other local, state, and federal partners.

  • Engage community members and stakeholders to identify traffic safety concerns and opportunities for prevention.

  • Assist with the development of educational materials, public awareness campaigns, and outreach strategies appropriate for the Rocky Boy community.

  • Collect and maintain program data, participation records, and other documentation necessary to evaluate activities and demonstrate grant progress.

  • Assist with grant reporting, performance measures, documentation, and other NHTSA program requirements.

  • Monitor program activities and outcomes and recommend adjustments to improve effectiveness and community participation.

  • Participate in relevant meetings, trainings, coalitions, and community events.

  • Maintain organized records of grant activities, expenditures, outreach efforts, and program accomplishments.

  • Perform other duties related to the successful implementation of the SOAR Grant.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Health, Human Services, Education, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field or combination of High School Diploma and at least 4 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience working with community-based programs, prevention initiatives, health education, outreach, or grant-funded programs preferred.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage community members, youth, Tribal leadership, and partner organizations.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple activities, events, meetings, and program priorities.

  • Ability to deliver presentations and provide education to individuals and groups.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications, email, and electronic recordkeeping.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn traffic safety, injury prevention, seat belt safety, child passenger safety, and impaired-driving prevention strategies.

  • Knowledge of and ability to work respectfully within the Rocky Boy community and with Tribal programs and partners.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel locally and occasionally outside the community for meetings, trainings, or program activities.
